Statement: The Supreme Court’s Dept. of Education Decision is Shameful

July 15, 2025 — From School Board Integrity Project's Founder and Executive Director Kyrstin Schuette:

“The Supreme Court’s decision is a direct threat to America’s public schools. By allowing the federal government to move forward with dismantling the Department of Education, the Court has cleared the way for funding disruptions, weakened civil rights enforcement, and the unraveling of basic support systems that schools rely on every day.

Public education is not just a policy — it’s a promise made to generations of Americans, including the more than 50 million students enrolled in our public schools. More than 13,000 local school boards have the power to protect that promise.

School board members control budgets, set priorities, and decide whether students in their communities get the opportunities they deserve. Now more than ever, it’s important to elect school board members who will work on behalf of our kids, not against them in service of an extreme political agenda. This moment demands we elect school board members who will practice good governance, pursue academic freedom and excellence, and foster schools where every kid belongs.

That’s why I’m calling on concerned citizens everywhere to step up and run for school board or support those who do. Because the future we choose for our schools is the future we choose for our country.”
