The School Board Integrity Project is a values-based organization fighting back against extremism in our schools and empowering communities to deliver the leadership our public school systems deserve.
We work alongside candidates who will uphold and lead with the following principles:
Good Governance
School board members must practice transparent, collaborative governance that serves students and families—not political agendas. We're witnessing our public education system buckle at the hands of political activists who claim to represent parents but actually represent a vocal minority backed by massive amounts of outside conservative funding.
With fewer than 10% of voters participating in school board elections, extremist groups exploit low turnout to essentially install candidates representing narrow political interests rather than community values. Our candidates support open budget processes, meaningful community engagement, and evidence-based decision-making that builds trust rather than division.
Academic Excellence
We expect excellence in our public education systems, which requires leaders who prioritize student achievement and academic freedom. Instead of focusing on educational excellence, extremist board members waste precious time and taxpayer money on book bans and curriculum restrictions that hurt student learning.
Large majorities of Americans—more than 8 in 10—don't think books should be banned from schools, and 71% say they would be less likely to support candidates who restrict what can be taught. Our candidates trust teachers, librarians, and curriculum experts who have dedicated their careers to helping students learn. We support candidates who will make evidence-based curriculum decisions, oppose censorship, and ensure every child has access to the resources they need to succeed in college, career, and life.
Inclusive Schools
Every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported at school, regardless of who they are or where they come from. We've seen a surge in harassment of LGBTQ+ students, attacks on diverse literature, and erosion of inclusive policies as extremist groups target school boards. Student wellbeing and academic success are directly connected—when schools are welcoming and inclusive, all students perform better academically, socially, and emotionally. Our candidates believe every student deserves to thrive as their authentic selves and support policies that create welcoming environments, protect students from discrimination, and prepare all students for success in our diverse democracy.
